Applying Principles of Medical Education
provides individualized training, feedback, and hands-on application of skills to ensure your teaching success in a variety of clinical settings. Benefits of this focused, individualized program include:

Personalized curriculum

Prior to the start of the program, you will complete an in-depth needs assessment of your teaching skills, and will work with course directors to devise a customized education plan based on your specific learning goals. The education plan will serve as the foundation of your intensive training during the Applying Principles of Medical Education Course, which will include in-depth study, targeted didactics, and practice and feedback of essential teaching skills. Harvard faculty, possessing extensive experience and advanced training in clinical education, will provide instruction, one-on-one supervision, and educational consultation.

Experiential learning

By engaging in our unique “know-show-do-review” sessions, you will learn to apply medical education principles in a variety of clinical venues, practice and develop your teaching skills in simulated and actual clinical settings, and receive immediate feedback from master clinician educators and peer observers. During the program, you will lead teaching sessions for Harvard Medical School trainees and gain real experience in advancing your instructional skills. All teaching will include direct observation and individualized feedback from Harvard faculty. In addition to meeting one-on-one with experienced clinician educators, the select group of program participants will gather for in-depth discussions, debrief their teaching experiences, and form a community of like-minded medical educators.

Educational Consultations

To address your own teaching goals and learn how to overcome your most challenging teaching dilemmas, you will have individual educational consultation sessions with our content experts.
