Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program
Robert Gerszten, MD, Chief, Division of Cardiology
Looking back at recent advances in the field of cardiovascular medicine, the developments of the past two decades are nothing short of miraculous. Driven by sophisticated new technologies and research breakthroughs, cardiac care has developed and been refined at an unprecedented pace. Furthermore, emerging investigations at the molecular level–from the sequencing of the human genome to the widespread use of proteomics–are helping to illuminate the roots of heart disease, pointing us in new directions as we continue to develop improved treatments and diagnostics.
As a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center offers cardiovascular fellows a unique set of resources and an ideal environment in which to take advantage of this exciting era in cardiac medicine. Known for its exemplary patient care and safety and quality initiatives, BIDMC is also a national and international leader in biomedical research and in medical education. The carefully structured clinical curriculum of our fellowship program is strengthened by a highly accomplished faculty, committed to helping trainees achieve their maximum potential.
Our program's strong investment in multidisciplinary clinical training and research – which spans from basic and translational opportunities to the assessment of clinical outcomes in our recently opened Smith Center – provides fellows with a solid foundation on which to build their futures. It is our mission to continue this tradition of excellence by attracting promising men and women to careers in academic cardiology.

On behalf of the faculty of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Division of Cardiology, we welcome your interest in our Clinical and Research Fellowship Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease.
BIDMC's Cardiovascular Fellowship Program has ranked among the nation's top programs in graduate medical education and has produced many leaders in both clinical and research cardiovascular medicine. Our breadth of training opportunities begins with our general cardiology fellowship and extends to advanced ACGME fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology , interventional cardiology, advanced non-invasing imaging and basic and translational research.
The Cardiovascular Fellowship provides extensive training in cardiovascular patient care. We are committed to the academic development of our fellows who are paired with research and clinical mentors early in their training.
BIDMC's leading-edge resources and facilities provide trainees with a rich patient care experience. Our teaching affiliation with Harvard Medical School and commitment to medical student, housestaff, and fellow education affords numerous opportunities for personal and intellectual growth.
