Annual Meeting of the Boards
More than 300 guests convened at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston on October 19, 2017 for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Annual Meeting of the Boards. Through remarks by Chair of the Board of Overseers Danielle Remis Hackel, outgoing Chair of the Board of Directors Daniel Jick, Chair of the Board of Directors Carol F. Anderson, and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Tabb, M.D., attendees learned of the medical center's past accomplishments, its present successes , and its goals for the future. After concluding the business portion of the evening, attendees took part in a special celebration to honor Jick for his many years of service to BIDMC. Department of Medicine Chair Mark Zeidel, M.D., Chief Financial Officer Steve Fischer, and Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Department of Surgery Chair Elliot Chaikof, M.D., Ph.D., spoke about advances that took place in their respective specialties during Jick's four-year tenure as chair. The audience also heard from Director Emeritus Stephen Kay, who recognized Jick for his accomplishments. Dr. Tabb then announced the establishment of the Daniel J. Jick Excellence in Leadership Award. This award will be presented annually to an outstanding BIDMC board member or community leader. Recipients of this honor will be recognized for their demonstrated selflessness, dedication, energy, and enthusiasm and will be considered paragons of BIDMC's values and visions. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham Annual Gala
On Saturday, November 7, 2015, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham hosted more than 800 guests at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel for its 17th Annual Gala, Dream A Modern Ball. At the event, BID–Needham’s President and CEO, John Fogarty, announced that BIDMC named its cancer facility in Needham the Lank Cancer Center in honor of Althea and Bertram “Buddy” Lank; the Lank family’s most recent gift supported the capital campaign for the Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion in Needham. In addition, Carol Bolton Kappel, a member of the hospital’s Board of Advisors and a breast cancer survivor, shared her story about her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment at both BIDMC and BID–Needham. With live and silent auctions and raffle, the gala raised more than $600,000 to support the BID Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion. Photography by Bill Brett.
