Rethinking the Brain
On Thursday, April 4, the BIDMC Board of Overseers presented Rethinking the Brain: Applying new concepts in neuroscience to prevent disease and improve health. This exciting hands-on event focused on a relatively new concept in neuroscience that turns the long-held belief that the adult human brain is hard-wired and unchangeable on its head. Through interactive exhibits and informative discussions, attendees learned about our leading-edge advances that do not simply mask the symptoms of neurological disease, injury, or aging, but actually change the brain and alter its long-term function. On May 21, BIDMC’s Cardiovascular Advisory Committee welcomed 85 guests to the Four Seasons Hotel Boston for the educational breakfast, Changing Rhythms, where attendees learned more about the most challenging and prevalent heart conditions of our time. Chaired by Jack Manning, member of the Board of Directors, the program featured presentations by a number of leading faculty from the renowned Harvard-Thorndike Arrhythmia Institute at BIDMC, which is led by Mark Josephson, M.D., chief of cardiovascular medicine. The event also provided another opportunity to honor Josephson, who received the prestigious Paul Dudley White Award from the American Heart Association, for all his contributions to the field of electrophysiology. BIDMC is currently trying to raise funds for a chair in Josephson’s name. For photos from the event, take a look at our photo gallery. Photography by Theresa Johnson Herlihy.
