Our City. Our Stories. Our Heroes.
On April 10, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Board of Overseers hosted an emotional and thought-provoking event to recognize the first anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon and the medical center’s response to the traumatic events. The evening showcased the untold story of survivor and BIDMC patient Patrick Downes and featured a panel of clinicians and staff whose courageous efforts that day saved countless lives. Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey was on hand to speak about his experiences visiting the survivors at BIDMC shortly after the tragedy and took part, along with Boston Athletic Association Executive Director Tom Grilk, in a moving ceremony to recognize some of the unsung heroes at the medical center. The evening concluded with a rousing appearance by the 2014 BIDMC Boston Marathon team.
