Orientation and Decision to Continue

During your evaluation period, we expect you and your caregiver(s) to attend a transplant orientation class with our clinical transplant coordinators, financial transplant coordinator, transplant social worker and transplant nutritionist. This meeting is a mandatory part of the transplant evaluation. The orientation class is held on the second Tuesday of every month, from 10 to 12 noon, at the Transplant Institute.

Topics include overall information about liver disease and our Transplant Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the evaluation process and required testing, how patients are listed for transplant and monitored while on the waiting list, nutritional issues, health insurance, and social services support.

Decision to Continue

The evaluation period gives you and your family the opportunity to meet with the transplant team and decide if you want to pursue transplantation at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Please remember that the ultimate decision to undergo surgery belongs to you, and you may withdraw from the program at any time. At any time during the process we are here for you and your family, to provide guidance and support, and to answer any questions you might have.
