Edward A. Hatchigian, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Hatchigian is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center since its inception in 1999. His specialty is bariatric medicine. He received his medical training at Harvard Medical School, completed his internship and residency in medicine at the Deaconess Hospital in Boston where he also completed a fellowship on the Nutrition Support Service of the Departments of Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Hatchigian received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and holds a Master of Science degree in public and environmental health from Tufts University. Dr. Hatchigian has taught in the field of nutrition for 25 years including research in the area of nutrition immunology with the Nutrition Pathology Unit at Boston City Hospital. He was involved in several clinical trials on weight loss medications at the Center for the Study of Nutrition Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Hatchigian is a member of several professional societies including the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.
Anne M. McNamara, RN
Anne McNamara received a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University and attended New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She has worked as a mental health counselor and organ transplant coordinator before entering the field of clinical research, coordinating studies using antibiotic impregnated cement in total hip arthroplasties, as well as pharmaceutical trials in rheumatology. Currently Anne is working with Dr. Blackburn in the area of obesity research and treatment, participating in clinical trials, and developing treatment protocols for patients with obesity and related diseases at BIDMC. And,concurrently working in research at Joslin Diabetes Center. Anne has served as faculty on a number of Continuing Medical Education courses, has been a contributing author of a Nutrition Handbook chapter on obesity, and has served as co-chair for nursing on an expert panel for patient safety in bariatric surgery. Anne enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her garden at her seaside home, and assists local stranding networks with sea mammal monitoring and rescue.
