Referring Your Patients 
The first step is to give us a call at 617-667-2845 with your patient's contact information. We will provide your patient with information about our program, invite them to a free information session led by one of our bariatric surgeons, and have them to complete a Screening Form. Or you can provide your patient with our website (www.bidmc.org/wls) where they can learn more about our program, their surgical options, download an application, and view a Webinar on WLS.
Surgical Options
Patients are offered both restrictive and malabsorptive surgical choices including the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, and the Gastric Sleeve. These surgeries may result in reductions of approximately 50% of excess body weight and great improvements of obesity-related health risks.
The Pre-Op Experience
Our team is dedicated to caring for your obese patients considering weight loss surgery. After completing our health history form and meeting our program eligibility requirements your patient will be welcomed by one of our nurses and our Medical Director. Following that, there will be additional meetings (including a visit with one of our dietitians and social worker) and tests to complete the screening process. Finally the team of obesity experts will meet to finalize their evaluation.
If surgery is recommended, your patient will meet with their surgeon of choice and schedule a surgical date. Our program has a 5 year post-operative follow up plan for your patient however we hope to maintain a lifelong relationship with you and your patient.
