Vascular Laboratory

Laboratory Services

The CardioVascular Institute (CVI) Vascular Laboratory provides a broad range of non-invasive vascular diagnostic services, ultrasound imaging, Doppler blood flow evaluation, and physiologic testing. The laboratory is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).

State-of-the-Art Imaging Technology

Our ultrasound systems are used to evaluate a complete range of vascular conditions including:

  • Carotid Artery Stenosis (cerebrovascular)
  • Peripheral Arterial Disease
  • Venous Occlusive Disease
  • Thrombotic Disease
  • Abdominal Vascular Disease (aorta, iliac, renal and mesenteric) including AAA
  • Renal Artery Stenosis
  • Renal Transplants

Extremity Arterial Disease Testing

We also offer physiologic testing for upper and lower extremity arterial disease. These tests can be performed before and after treadmill testing, which may be helpful in the evaluation of patients with intermittent claudication.

Diagnostic Studies

We are able to provide a variety of services to meet your needs and the needs of your patients. Diagnostic studies include:

  • Initial diagnostic evaluation of vascular disease
  • Studies of disease progression follow-up after surgical or catheter-based intervention.

We accommodate emergent studies on a same-day basis.

Registered Vascular Technologists

The laboratory’s dedicated registered vascular technologists (RVT’s) are proficient in all areas of noninvasive vascular testing and are supported by Technical Director Leslie Stone, RVT.

All studies are interpreted by Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery physicians and posted in the CareWeb Online Medical Record (OMR) under Notes - Vasc lab.

Accreditation

We are proud that in 2009, our vascular laboratory attained accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). The three-year accreditation means:

  • The lab has demonstrated its attention to a high level of patient care and quality testing.
  • The laboratory meets or exceeds ICAVL standards for noninvasive vascular testing for peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, extracranial cerebrovascular and visceral vascular conditions.
  • Every aspect of the laboratory’s daily operations and its impact on the quality of health care provided to patients has been assessed and reviewed.
