Risk Factors
Risk factors, other than diabetes, for developing diabetic foot problems include:
- Neuropathy (including numbness, tingling or burning sensations in your feet)
- Peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation in your legs)
- History of smoking
- A foot deformity
- Wearing improperly fitted shoes
- Not taking care of your feet
- Injuries from walking barefoot
- Soaking your feet
- Using a heating pad
