Risk factors, other than diabetes, for developing diabetic foot problems include:

• Neuropathy (including numbness, tingling or burning sensations in your feet)
  
• Peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation in your legs)
  
• History of smoking

• Wearing improperly fitted shoes
