Martin G. Sanda, MD

Martin G. Sanda, M.D. is a urological surgeon-scientist, who is Director of the BIDMC Prostate Cancer Care Center and Visiting Associate Professor of Urology at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining Harvard and BIDMC in December 2003, Dr. Sanda was tenured Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Urology Research at the University of Michigan, and previously completed his urology residency under Dr. Patrick Walsh at Johns Hopkins. He performed post-doctoral fellowship training in prostate cancer research at Johns Hopkins and in Tumor Immunology under Dr. Steven Rosenberg at NIH. He received his M.D. at Columbia and his BA at Yale University. Dr. Sanda is spearheading several NCI-funded, national clinical studies evaluating quality of life outcomes after prostate cancer treatment. In addition to his clinical practice and clinical research, Dr. Sanda also heads and NIH-funded laboratory investigating prostate cancer immunology and biomarkers. Dr. Sanda's outcomes and bench-to-bedside prostate cancer research has led to numerous academic awards and over 75 publications, including recent articles in leading medical journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature and JAMA.
