Equal cure rates, shorter recovery times

New technologies have changed the face of urology. In the past, many kidney, prostate and bladder surgeries required large incisions and long hospital stays. Today, revolutionary procedures enable most conditions to be treated less invasively, using tiny—and in some cases, no—incisions. Studies have shown these treatments offer cure rates equal to traditional open surgery but with significant advantages.

Advanced treatments ok

Here at the BIDMC Division of Urology, we are in the vanguard of minimally invasive care and research. Highly skilled, fellowship-trained surgeons are experts in laparoscopic, robotic-assisted, single incision laparoscopic surgery and other state-of-the-art procedures. Cosmetic outcomes are better, pain is reduced, and recovery times are weeks or even months shorter than with open surgery. Simply put, patients look and feel better faster.

The future is here

Because BIDMC is a Harvard Medical School training institution, we also are actively engaged in developing the treatments of tomorrow. Our urologic surgeons currently are investigating exciting new technologies—including those that could make surgery for some conditions obsolete.
