Why BIDMC Podiatry?
Multidisciplinary Approach
BIDMC’s full-time, board-certified foot surgeons collaborate with specialists in areas such as vascular surgery, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, infectious disease and diabetology, as well as with nurses, orthotic technicians, physical therapists and pain management specialists to provide patients with the combined resources needed to treat and manage their particular lower extremity conditions. These care providers work within the division’s four specialty care programs.
Clinical Expertise
Our foot surgeons are nationally and internationally known for their expertise in diabetic foot care and reconstructive surgery.
They are regularly invited to speak at medical and surgical conferences, and have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
Several of our surgeons hold leadership positions in national organizations such as the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
Convenience
In addition to our main practice setting at the medical center, the same level of exceptional care is available in community settings in Cambridge, Chelsea, Lexington, Needham, Randolph, Stoughton and Waltham. Multiple locations bring our services to the patient, eliminating their need to travel into Boston.
Research and Training
BIDMC’s Division of Podiatry is a national and international leader in research involving diabetic foot conditions, and has been awarded several National Institutes of Health (NIH) and ADA grants. A number of BIDMC studies have contributed to advances in clinical practice.
The division also sponsors a three-year residency program in foot and ankle surgery that is recognized as one of the top programs in the country. All of our physicians hold academic appointments in the department of surgery at Harvard Medical School.
