The Stroke Center provides state-of-the-art, integrated care for patients with stroke or transient ischemic attacks, including 24/7 coverage by dedicated stroke neurologists, a dedicated stroke ward and ICU service, vascular neurosurgery and interventional services, and cutting edge technology for detection of stroke and treatment with investigative devices and drugs.
Comprehensive Epilepsy Center
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is the largest in New England and provides care to patients with complex and difficult-to-control seizure disorders. The Epilepsy Center includes both inpatient and outpatient facilities for long-term monitoring of EEG to assess seizure control, as well as research programs in innovative pharmacological approaches to seizure control and surgical treatment of epilepsy.
Brain Tumor Center
The Brain Tumor Center is a multi-disciplinary program involving Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Radiation Oncology that provides care for patients with primary brain tumors and with the neurological complications of systemic cancer. Leading-edge treatments, including focal irradiation with the CyberKnife, experimental drug therapies, and image-guided and stereotactic surgery are available. To date, BIDMC neurosurgeons have treated more than 3,000 brain tumors. Research programs are coordinated with the Harvard Dana-Farber Cancer Center.
CyberKnife
The Keith C. Field CyberKnife Center compliments and enhances BIDMC's comprehensive array of diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical services for treating cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. BIDMC is proud to be the first center in New England to offer the CyberKnife System. CyberKnife's sophisticated, frameless system with superior targeting accuracy provides full-body radiosurgery anywhere in the body using real-time, image-guided robotics. It is the only stereotactic radiosurgery system that continuously tracks patient and target position, and automatically corrects for any motion throughout treatment. To date, more than 12,500 patients have been treated with the CyberKnife System.
Movement Disorders
The Division of Movement Disorders and Neurological Degenerative Disorders includes the Movement Disorders Center, which specializes in the care of patients with disorders ranging from Parkinson's disease and tremors to dystonia and chorea. Innovative therapies, including microelectrode-guided placement of subthalamic and thalamic stimulators, and new investigative medications are available.
