Per-Olof Hasselgren, MD, PhD, FACS, is the George H.A. Clowes, Jr. Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He graduated from the University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden. He attended medical school at the University of Gothenburg and completed his residency at Sahlgren's University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden. Dr. Hasselgren joined the staff at BIDMC in 2002 as Director of Endocrine Surgery and was appointed Vice Chairman for Research in the Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Department of Surgery.

His research interests include regulation of muscle protein breakdown in hyperthyroidism, sepsis, and other catabolic conditions. Dr. Hasselgren belongs to the American Surgical Association, American Medical Association, Society of University Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Peter M. Mowschenson, MD, FACS, graduated from London University in 1973 and completed surgical training at Beth Israel Hospital in 1979 under the leadership of Dr. William Silen, an internationally recognized endocrine surgeon. He then spent two years at the Harvard School of Public Health completing a fellowship in Endocrinology. Since 1981, Dr. Mowschenson has acquired considerable experience in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Dr. Mowschenson has been a member of the American Endocrine Surgical association since 1981 and has published papers on thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He is one of the first surgeons to establish and publish guidelines on same day surgery for thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
