General Surgery
Led by Dr. Mark Callery, the Division of General Surgery offers a complete range of surgical services for gastrointestinal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, breast, endocrine, and skin and soft tissue disorders including inguinal and abdominal wall hernia. Dr. Callery aims to "combine talent both within and across departments to provide patients with easy-access, multidisciplinary clinical programs that are undeniably cutting edge."
The Division of General Surgery provides primary, secondary and tertiary care for the entire spectrum of general surgical diseases. Areas of special expertise include:
- Surgical oncology
- Sphincter-sparing procedures for ulcerative colitis and familial polyposis
- Endocrine surgery, including thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy and laparoscopic adrenalectomy
- Gastric and esophageal surgery, including laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, and gastrectomy and esophagectomy for cancer
- Complex pancreatic and hepatobiliary procedures, including Whipple procedure
- Breast surgery
- Minimally invasive and laparoscopic methods of treating a wide variety of problems, including those of the gallbladder, biliary tree, pancreas, esophagus, small intestine, and colon, are widely used
