Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

A laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an operation to remove the gallbladder in order to treat gallstones, which can cause indigestion or abdominal pain. Traditional open surgery to remove the gallbladder typically involves a lengthy hospital stay and recuperation period. However, medically stable patients who have successful laparoscopic surgery without complications are generally able to go home the same day or next day and return to normal activities within one week. The procedure involves four or five tiny incisions, located in the navel and right upper abdomen.
