Risk Factors

Risk factors for developing aortic stenosis include:

  • Male gender
  • Age
  • Family members with a history of heart valve disease
  • History of rheumatic fever
  • Having a congenital valve defect known as bicuspid aortic valve (two flaps instead of three)
