About Us

Comprehensive and Convenient Care

Finding the right care for back or neck pain can be frustrating for patients and even for their primary care doctors. It sometimes requires several experts working together to create an effective plan. That is where our center excels.

Collaboration Between Multiple Disciplines

Specialists who are leaders in their fields have come together to create the best patient experience. We deliver complete nonsurgical and surgical care for the spine through collaboration between the following disciplines:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Physiatry
  • Dr. Michael Groff and Dr. Kevin McGuire co-direct the Spine Center at Beth Israel Deaconess.Neurology
  • Pain Management
  • Physical Therapy
  • Radiology

Co-Directed by a Neurosurgeon and Orthopaedic Surgeon

BIDMC’s spine center is the only one in Boston that is co-directed by a neurosurgeon and orthopaedic surgeon, reflecting true integration of these specialties. We will select the right option, working together with you and your physician. It may not be surgery. Many patients can benefit from other treatments.

Coordinated and Timely Care

From the first phone call, we will get you on the right track, scheduling everything you need for a complete evaluation, usually in one visit and one location. We ask patients to complete a leading-edge online patient questionnaire, which helps us provide comprehensive, personalized care.

At your visit, you will get the right information to understand your condition and your care. After treatment, your follow-up care will be the right fit for your life.
