Orthopaedic Injury Rehabilitation

Our experienced physical therapy and occupational therapy staff treat a wide variety of orthopedic problems. Conditions most commonly seen include:

  • Arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia
  • Sprains and strains of all joints
  • Postoperative care following joint replacement or surgical repairs
  • Fractures or dislocations
  • Back and neck problems
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Amputations
  • Sports injuries
  • Performing arts injuries

The initial visit includes a comprehensive evaluation of the patient’s current functional status, including fitness level and performance in light of acute and/or repetitive injuries. Individual treatment regimens address areas targeted for improvement and are designed to assist in rapid rehabilitation. Personal goals are set by each patient for return to participation in skilled sports, work, recreational or functional activities. Special emphasis is placed on the specific needs of performance athletes such as musicians, dancers and senior athletes striving to improve fitness.

Components of the treatment program may include:

  • Strengthening, flexibility and endurance exercises to improve movement during functional activities
  • Joint and soft tissue mobilization to increase range of motion and freedom of movement
  • Advice or correction of biomechanics with changes in shoe wear, bracing, taping, or assistive/adaptive equipment
  • Education regarding a home program
  • Ergonomic improvements or changes to the athlete’s training or practice regimen and schedule
  • Modalities to increase tissue extensibility, decrease pain and edema, and promote healing
