Dr. Eisenberg graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1969. He completed an internship at the Mount Zion Medical Center in San Francisco and served as a first-year resident in diagnostic radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. After two years as a radiologist in the army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He served as director of gastrointestinal radiology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco for five years before being appointed as Professor and Chairman of Radiology at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport in 1980.

Dr. Eisenberg returned to the Bay Area in 1991 as Chair of the Department of Radiology at Highland Hospital and Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco and Davis, before joining the faculty at the Beth Israel Deaconess in 2007. The author of 20 books in radiology, Dr. Eisenberg has specialized in interpreting large volumes of conventional radiographs. As a non-practicing attorney and member of the California Bar, he has authored a book on radiology and the law. He has completed a doctoral degree in Jewish Studies and is the author of 9 published books in that field.
