Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy
Intensity Modulate Radiation Therapy, or IMRT, is a form of radiation therapy, and more specifically, 3D conformal radiation therapy. However, in IMRT, the intensity of each radiation field can be spatially altered, or modulated, to deliver an even more precise, 3D conformal radiation therapy plan. The modulation of the radiation " intensity is achieved by using many sub-fields within a single field. These sub-fields are called segments. A given IMRT field can have as many as 50 segments.
