The Keith C. Field CyberKnife Center compliments and enhances Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's (BIDMC) comprehensive array of diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical services for treating cancerous and non-cancerous tumors.
Our experts in radiation oncology and surgery have come together to provide a dynamic, new radiosurgical approach - the CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiosurgery System. BIDMC, a leader in pioneering innovative technology to advance patient care, is proud to be the first center in New England to offer the CyberKnife System.
In November of 2010, BIDMC upgraded the CyberKnife facility to the most advanced CyberKnife technology. This upgrade has allowed us to treat at 800 MU per minute, which results in a much faster treatment time. Most treatments can now be delivered in 90 minutes or less. In addition, the CyberKnife now has the ability to shape the radiation fields using the Accuray Iris. The Accuray Iris is a device that can conform the delivered radiation to the shape of the tumor. This new upgrade has improved the accuracy and precision in delivering the radiation to the tumor while decreasing treatment times.
