Lockouts

The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Public Safety Department handles all requests for lockouts within the medical center. If you require assistance please contact the Public Safety dispatch center directly. Please be prepared to give the dispatcher your full name, the building and floor number of your location, and the door number of the area you require access to (usually printed above the door.) The general policy of the department for persons requiring entry assistance to a facility, office or lab is as follows:

  • Persons should have in their possession their BIDMC photo ID card or another state issued photo ID so that the person's status may be verified.
  • The area where entry is requested should be an area where the person is authorized to enter.
  • If the area in question is NOT an area where the person is typically authorized to enter, prior authorization in written form or by telephone from the person in control of the area is required.
  • Prior written authorization for persons requiring entry to facilities can be faxed to the Public Safety Dept. ahead of time at 617-632-8303 (x2-8303 from on campus.)
  • Contractors will NOT be granted entry into any facilities, offices or labs without authorization in writing or by phone from the person in control of the area in question.
  • Others forms of identification such as: Company/business ID cards or business cards, Harvard University, Children's Hospital, or Brigham & Women's Hospital ID cards, etc. will NOT automatically satisfy identification requirements to a given area.
Authorization will be questioned and will need to be verified.

Please note that the BIDMC Public Safety Dept. reserves the right to deny entry to any area(s) in question if the person's ID and authorization cannot be verified.

NOTE: If it is anticipated that a person will require access to a given area and they are not BIDMC employees or persons who normally have access to the area in question, it is highly recommended that prior authorization arrangements be made to prevent any inconvenience or other potential problems.

Legitimate emergency situations or unusual circumstances may provide an exception to this policy. The police supervisor on duty will make the decision or authorization during these types of situations. Please contact the Public Safety office directly if you have any questions.
