Police
The sworn police officers of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Public Safety Department patrol all properties owned, leased, occupied by or otherwise under the direct control of BIDMC. Patrols are conducted on foot, by bicycle and by police cruiser in order to ensure a safe environment for BIDMC patients, staff and visitors. The police officers are charged with enforcing all state laws and medical center policies as well as arresting and apprehending criminals as necessary. The patrol division currently consists of four patrol Sergeants who serve as shift commander and supervise each of the three shifts (day, evening and night), as well as five patrolmen who serve as initial call takers. These officers handle a variety of duties from responding to all calls for service from the BIDMC community, as well as taking complaints and conducting initial investigations regarding criminal activity, motor vehicle accidents and other incidents. The police officers constantly strive to build strong partnerships with other BIDMC community members and departments and make themselves available to respond to their requests.
