Bike Patrol

The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Public Safety Department operates a Bike Patrol division, which is supervised by police Sgt. Jonathan Pare. Below are some facts on the bike patrol program.
Bike Unit

The BIDMC Bike Patrol Division:

  • Is comprised of up to 10 certified full-time bike officers.
  • All officers are certified in either Cops on Bikes with Education for Bikes (COBWEB) and/or International Police Mt. Bike Association (IPMBA),  which are 35-40 hour certification classes.
  • The certification classes;  officers are shown the most up to date skills and techniques utilized in urban/city police mountain bike methodology and patrol operations.
  • All Public Safety Officers are CPR certified and Police Bike Officers are CPR and First Responder certified.
  • The Bike Patrol Division is run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, weather permitting.
  • Bike officers patrol all BIDMC Property, including all garages, alley ways and surrounding jurisdictions e.g. Riverway and DCR Park.
  • Bike officers also provide security escorts (24 hours a day.)
  • The division provides specialized security details for events e.g. Red Sox Games and other sporting events.
  • It also saturates high crime areas and provides quick response to emergency situations that other vehicles can not access.
  • Additionally, division officers assist in traffic control.
