Administration
The Administration division of the Public Safety Department is comprised of the Chief of Public Safety, a Police Lieutenant, Public Safety Lieutenant, and a System's Administrator. Together as a team this division is responsible for many of the daily administrative functions of the department and ensuring its smooth overall operation.
The Chief of Public Safety is responsible for the overall operation of the department. This includes being involved with members of other departments within the medical center, managing the department's budget, and making executive decisions regarding the department's daily operation.
The Police and Public Safety Lieutenants work together in collaboration with the Chief to supervise department members and make decisions regarding its daily operations. Some of their duties include reviewing and revising departmental policies in order to reflect the department's mission as well as providing leadership and mentoring to the department's members. They are also responsible for such areas of the department as scheduling (to include overtime, time-off requests and details), staffing and payroll, uniforms and equipment, and education and advancement opportunities. The Lieutenants also work with other departments within the medical center in order to strengthen the relationships the department has with other members of the medical center community.
The Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all of the department's physical security systems. This includes the department's radio and dispatch systems, pagers, security camera system, and physical access systems (electronic door locks, key card swipes, etc.) Whenever necessary the Administrator works with outside vendors to coordinate and track repairs in order to ensure that all systems remain functional, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
