Office Property

Below are some tips for helping keep your office property secure. Office equipment, especially computers, laptops, printers, PDA's, and cellphones or Blackberry devices are easy targets for thieves. Many of these items are small enough that thieves can take them and by easily concealing them remove them from the area without anyone noticing. Thieves may also profit by selling such stolen goods for a profit. In order to reduce the risk of this happening, you can do several things such as:

  • Always keep your office or immediate work area secure if possible.
  • Never leave your door unlocked, even if you are "just running to the restroom."
  • In the few minutes it takes you to go and return thieves can easily steal any items that are not secured.
  • If you are leaving the area for a moment ask a nearby co-worker to keep an eye on your work area.
  • Never leave a purse, wallet or cell phone lying around.
  • If possible lock these items in a lockable drawer or container.
  • If not possible take these items with you or put them in your pocket.
  • Never leave valuable items in the pockets of a coat which has been left unsecured.
  • Whenever possible, secure larger items (printers, computer monitors, or CPU's) physically to your desk or work station. (For more information contact IS Support Services at x4-8080.)

If at any time you suspect any items have been stolen from your office or work area or you see a suspicious person you do not recognize in the area, notify the Public Safety Department immediately!
