Chromosome Analyses
The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides chromosome analyses on:
- Amniotic fluid
- Chorionic villus
- Blood
- Bone marrow
- Other tissues
Specialized Tests
Specialized tests include multicolor FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization).
Establishes Cell Cultures on Patients
In addition, the laboratory establishes cell cultures on patients who require other testing such as biochemical or DNA testing.
Approximately 1,500 Specimens Analyzed Annually
The laboratory analyzes approximately 1500 specimens per year the majority of which are prenatal specimens. Reporting of abnormalities in these specimens is coordinated with the
Clinical Genetics Division in the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
