"I was really surprised when they announced my name at the annual dinner," commented Brand. "I go to these dinners all the time and never thought it would be me up there. It makes me proud to work with such great people."
Brand has been an employee of the hospital for 17 years. She started the hand therapy department in 1993. She is now the Clinical Supervisor of Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. Brand earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupation Therapy from Tufts University in 1983. She is married with two children and lives in Needham.
"Being the employee of the year is a milestone," Brand added. "My goal is always to be the best therapist I can be. I really enjoy what I do and it comes across so I've been told. It's nice that when patients come to the hospital to see other care givers they always pop their head into my office to say hello, even if we are not meeting on that day. That feels good."
Brand is no stranger to employee recognition. She has been awarded the Stars of Excellence six times, an award given to hospital employees who go above and beyond for their patients. She has also been named Employee of the Month three times since 2002, including twice last year.
Director of Rehabilitation and Occupational Health Services Karen Foulkrod applauded Brand's honor, "Suzanne had been an unsung hero of the hospital for years, going about her business quietly. There is no debate that she embodies our motto Service Excellence - Our Way of Giving."
When asked what advice Brand would give to others she replied, "Just be yourself and you've got to love what you're doing because it shows. I am really proud of working here with such great people."
