Westwood Resident Appointed New Senior Management Position at Local Hospital

Needham, MA—Penny Greenberg, RN, MS, has been named the new Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (BID-Needham) after serving an interim role for the past six months.
Ms. Greenberg has long served in the area of health care quality and patient safety. She has been the director of health care quality and patient safety at BID-Needham since 2005. She is also a consultant to The Harvard Risk Management Foundation which trains hospitals in teamwork behaviors. Ms. Greenberg also serves as a nurse reviewer for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, evaluating the quality of care within the OB/GYN departments at various hospitals.
“Penny’s leadership is invaluable in maintaining our commitment to improving patient quality, safety, and satisfaction,” said Jeffrey Liebman, president and chief executive officer of BID-Needham. “She is also a leading member of our team of doctors, nurses and staff preparing for the October opening of our new south wing that will include 20 new private inpatient rooms and a state of the art emergency department.”
Ms. Greenberg started her career at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston in 1981 as a clinical nurse in labor and delivery. In addition to her role as a labor and delivery nurse, Penny also served as an OB/GYN Quality Improvement Specialist at BIDMC and the project manager for a major study which evaluated teamwork in the prevention of medical errors in labor and delivery. Penny was also a quality assurance coordinator at BIDMC.
Ms. Greenberg recently received her Master of Science in health care leadership from Northeastern. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in 2002. Ms. Greenberg is a graduate Needham High School.
