Boston Consumers’ CHECKBOOK Methodology

To create its Top Doctors primary care physician list, Consumers’ CHECKBOOK surveyed virtually all actively practicing physicians in the nation’s 53 largest metropolitan areas and asked each to name the one or two physicians in each of 35 specialty fields he or she “would consider most desirable for care of a loved one.” The Top Doctors list is created with names of physicians mentioned most often by their peers. The primary care doctors who make the lists rate higher, on average, on patient surveys than other primary care doctors rate.
