Echocardiogram
CVI at BID-Needham offers several echocardiogram studies. Echocardiography is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to assess the health of the heart. The laboratory features state-of-the-art imaging systems with real-time electronic report generation. Study interpretations are provided by staff physicians who have passed the National Board of Echocardiography’s Examination of Special Competency in Adult Echocardiography.
Procedures include:
- Transthoracic (surface) echocardiography
- Transesophageal echocardiography
- Stress (physiologic and pharmacologic) echocardiography
- Contrast echocardiography
Physicians often prescribe echocardiograms for patients with the following conditions:
- Valvular heart disease
- Ventricular dysfunction
- Congenital heart disease.
- Cardiomyopathy
- Congestive heart failure
- Pericardial disease
- Cardiac source of embolism
