Johanna Guarino, PT, OCS
Johanna is a Lead for Physical Therapy at BIDHC-Lexington. She has been a practicing physical therapist since graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 1989. In 1999, Johanna completed a year long residency and received a Certificate from the Instituteof Orhtopedic Manual Therapy. In 2007, she received a certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialtist. Johanna also has a Mat certification in Pilates through the Weight Trainer Association and she is a physical therapy instructor at Boston University.
Cynde Durant, MSPT
Cynde received her Master's degree in Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University in Virginia in 1996. She has also been a certified massage therapist for over 20 years. Cynde actively participates in community awareness forums, charity events, teaches yoga and Pilates. As a member of The Arthritis Foundation's Speaker's Bureau since 1990, she is called upon to educate groups on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Some of her work has been published in Advance, a physical therapy magazine. Cynde advocates a holistic approach to patient care, educating her patients in wellness and prevention strategies.
Heather Broglio, PT, OCS
Heather has been practicing physical therapy since her graduation from University of Mass Lowell in 1989. Her early career consisted of working in acute care and management. Her interests then shifted to the outpatient setting. In 1999 after completing a year long residency at the Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy her career has been focused on incorporating manual therapy techniques into her treatment. This includes joint mobilization, manipulations, and MET (metabolic exercise therapy). These skills and special interest in sports and personal training has allowed her to excel at guiding her patients back to their sport. She is a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics in our clinic after becoming Board Certified in 2007. She has been active in athletics her whole life, still plays organized soccer, and currently assists coaching her children in soccer.
Paul Livolsi, PT, DPT
Paul received his Master's Degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 from University of Massachusetts - Lowell and then received his Doctorate degree in 2005. His clinical interests include: Orthopedics, Manual Therapy, and Musculoskeletal Exercise Program Development. His experience extends from VA Healthcare System to private practice and now hospital-based community health center. Paul has completed continuing education coursework on manual therapy for evaluation and treatment of lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint dysfuntion.
Connie Sweet, PT, CPUR, CSHE
Connie is an experienced physical therapist, practicing for 36 years in various settings. She graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy in 1974. She worked for many years in the community setting in home care and as a consultant to nursing homes. Later she worked at community based hospitals in the surgical and medical ICU's providing chest physical therapy and developing and teaching in pre/postnatal and oncology programs. Connie received her Master's degree in Health Services Administration from UMass-Lowell in 1995. Since then she has specialized in outpatient care with a concentration in Industrial Health and the worker's compensation system focusing on prevention services, repetitive strain injury as well as job coaching and ergonomic task analysis She has attended many continuing education courses and uses her knowledge of manual therapy skills to provide comprehensive treatment to the patient. In 2006, she received her certification as a specialist in health ergonomics. She plans to complete her Doctorate degree in physical therapy in 2010.
Noreen Straughn, OTR/L, CHT
Noreen is a Lead for Occupational Therapy at BIDHC- Lexington. She graduated from the Occupational Therapy program at Tufts University in 1988. Noreen has been an Occupational Therapist on BIDMC's Hand Service since 1989. She worked in Boston for 10 years beginning with inpatient orthopedics and then becoming the Outpatient Clinical Coordinator. She has been the lead therapist at BIDHC-Lexington since 2000 and is a Certified Hand Therapist. Noreen specializes in post-operative rehabilitation from hand surgery as well as treatment of repetitive strain injuries. She has also participated in research on post surgical wound healing techniques with BIDMC surgeons.
Judith Ciampa Wright OTR/L, CHT
Judy graduated from the Occupational Therapy program at the University of New Hampshire in 1989 and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 1995. She has worked almost exclusively with the outpatient hand population since becoming a therapist. Her areas of clinical interest are hand trauma and repetitive strain injuries. A violinist for 30 years, Judy is particularly interested with working with musicians. She has presented on injury prevention in musicians to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The New England Conservatory, The Indian Hill Symphony, and The Worcester School of Performing Arts. She has also worked closely with occupational medicine specialists and has consulted in upper extremity injury prevention in the workplace, including onsite job assessment and modifications.
