New Parent Support Groups
Parent Connection
Welcoming a new baby into the home can be both an exciting and overwhelming experience, especially for first-time parents. Because you may have many questions about caring for your baby, the Medical Center offers the Parent Connection— a free service for first-time parents who deliver here.
About the Parent Connection
The Parent Connection is a network of experienced parents who are carefully selected and trained to serve as resources for new parents. Parents who join the program are paired with a Parent Connection volunteer, who is available to discuss concerns and answer questions about your baby and parenting issues, such as bathing, soothing and feeding. Just as important, Parent Connection volunteers are there for you, caring about your well-being and offering you emotional support. In addition to phone support, the Parent Connection also offers new mom support groups in Dedham, Chestnut Hill and Lexington. The program also offers specialty groups, for Working Moms that meets twice a month in Needham, and a Gay and Lesbian New Parent group which is co-sponsored with Jewish Family and Children's Services. All groups are free and open to the public, however registration is required. For more meeting times and to register for any Parent Connection group, please call (617) 667-2229 (BABY) or email Christine Sweeney at csweeney@bidmc.harvard.edu.
How to Join
You may sign up for The Parent Connection phone support before you deliver, during your stay at the hospital following delivery, or after you have brought your new baby home.
Please call (617) 667-2229 (BABY) to be matched with a mentoring mom. You may also contact The Parent Connection at the same number for more information about a new-moms group near you.
