Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Clinic

The ambulatory medical nutrition therapy (MNT) service provides comprehensive nutritional assessment and counseling to meet each individual’s nutritional needs. Our goal is to help each patient develop an understanding of how food and nutrition affect health and well‑being -specifically, how nutrition therapy can aid in maintaining overall health and managing conditions such as heart disease, gastrointestinal problems, kidney disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight management problems. Our team is composed of registered dietitians (RD), and nutrition support experts who work closely with patients, families and health care providers to improve health and nutritional status.

Insurance and Scheduling Information

Most managed care plans/insurance providers require a referral from the patient’s primary care physician for nutrition services. If this is required by the patient’s insurance plan, please obtain the referral prior to scheduling a nutrition visit. A co-payment may be due at the time of the visit. Please call 617-667-2565 to schedule an appointment.

Initial and Follow-up Nutrition Visit

The initial visit lasts at least 30 minutes and includes a review of the patient’s current eating habits. If possible, the patient should maintain a written record of all foods eaten for 3 days prior to the visit, including the time eaten and the amount consumed. This 3‑day “food diary” assists the RD in developing a more comprehensive personalized nutrition plan for the patient.

A follow-up visit lasts at least 15 minutes, during which the RD and patient review progress made and address any issues that may be problematic. The patient is advised to write down any questions for the RD before the follow-up visit.

We do require one full business day notification for all cancellations. If we do get this notification, we will charge the patient a $25.00 no-show fee.

We also have group classes available at varying times throughout the year.
