Guidelines
In order to gain access to the iShift scheduling system and register for available shifts, all employees must complete the registration process by clicking here.
Use the iShift scheduling system responsibly. Use of the system is considered a privilege, and misuse of it can result in deactivation of account access.
General Guidelines
- In order to use iShift, you must be a non-management Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center employee in an eligible job code and cost center.
- Employees on Leave of Absence, Worker's Compensation, on a performance improvement plan, or partial return to work programs may not request shifts using iShift.
- Working additional shifts through iShift does not change your employment status or benefits eligibility.
- You may begin to request shifts once you have registered and have your profile approved by your manager.
- Mandatory education and competencies must be up-to-date, and you must meet the minimum orientation requirements in order to use iShift.
- You can request any shift you qualify for as long as the shift doesn't conflict with your regular schedule. If your home unit has needs for a shift at the same time as another unit you are required to give your home unit priority.
- If you change your mind about a shift, you can retract your request as long as the shift has not been assigned to you.
- If you are assigned a shift and you have any questions, contact the appropriate unit manager. The contact information for the shift will be included in your notification e-mail.
- If your request for a particular shift is accepted, you will be notified via e-mail. Shifts will be assigned at least 48 hours before the beginning of the shift. If you are not assigned a shift, you will not be notified. Once a shift has been assigned, it will be removed from the list of shifts available through iShift.
- If you cannot work the scheduled shift, it is your responsibility to find appropriate coverage and notify the manager or manager designee of the request for the change. Note: All attendance and cancellation policies apply to iShift shifts. Please note that while you can switch your iShift hours the agreed upon rate is specific to you and cannot be switched to another person.
Scheduled Hours and Pay Practices
- You are expected to work all scheduled hours in your home department and shifts/hours that you were assigned through iShift. It is your responsibility to know your regular department work schedule and not register for shifts that conflict with that schedule. iShift scheduling does not supersede any current BIDMC policies or procedures. Once you are assigned a shift, you are considered scheduled for that shift and all current BIDMC policies and procedures apply, including but not limited to attendance, cancellation, and employee dependability.
- If you are a non-exempt employee and work an iShift shift which puts you into overtime status you will be paid at either the iShift posted rate, or time and one-half your regular hourly rate of pay, whichever is greater. The premium pay listed for the shift includes overtime pay, if applicable.
- The Medical Center reserves the right to cancel shifts as specified in the cancellation policy and any payments due will be governed by that policy.
