Neuromuscular Disorders

The Division of Neuromuscular Disease at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is fully equipped with the latest medical technology and expertise to help in rapidly diagnosing and treating any neuromuscular problem. We have access to the highest quality, state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, electromyography/nerve conduction study facilities, as well as a autonomic testing laboratory, muscle and nerve biopsy services, and quantitative muscle strength and sensory measuring systems. In addition, we have a constant, ongoing wide-range of clinical research pushing the frontiers of neuromuscular disease diagnosis and care forward.

In addition to the wide array of diagnostic services available, we also offer the latest in medical and surgical therapies to assist you in your care. Treatments for all forms of neuromuscular disease are available at BIDMC, either through the department of Neurology or through other departments including radiology, neurosurgery, and orthopedics. Specific available services include IVIG, plasma exchange, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and swallowing therapy, and drug therapies.

But more importantly than the full range of technology and the specific therapies available, you will find that you are placing yourself in the hands of caring physicians of the absolute highest caliber, individuals who are driven to help find out what the problem is and treat it as effectively as possible. While it is relatively easy to find knowledgeable people in the Boston academic medical centers, you will find that the physicians at BIDMC are unusually compassionate and interested in treating you as an individual.

We diagnose and treat all neuromuscular diseases. For more information on specific disorders and our approach to evaluation and treatment, please click on the specific link on the left hand navigation.
