Latino Mental Health
Bilingual and Bicultural Team
The Latino Mental Health program is a multidisciplinary team of bilingual and bicultural psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, social workers, licensed mental health counselors and community resource specialists who provide culturally sensitive services to Latino patients. The Program is led by Dr. Claudia Epelbaum since September 2012.
The Latino Mental Health Program offers the following services:
Comprehensive initial evaluation
Psychopharmacologic treatment of general psychiatric disorders
Psychopharmacologic treatment of neurocognitive disorders
Body Mind Relaxation Group
This experienced team of professionals evaluates and treats general psychiatric conditions and neurological problems. It also provides supportive psychotherapy and group therapy as appropriate depending on the condition of the patient. The team works in close connection with the Cognitive Neurology Unit led by Dr. Albert Galaburda and the network of Primary Care Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and affiliated clinics.

Mental Illness secondary to Brain injuries
Education and Resources
In addition, the program provides important information and referrals to community resources, and sponsors educational seminars for patients and their families. The Longwood Psychiatry Residency Program, and its residents participate in this unit as part of their training. Other local universities often have graduate students rotate through the Latino Mental Health Program in order to increase their expertise in the field.
The Latino Mental Health Program and Cognitive Neurology Unit sponsor Sobremesa, "A quarterly Symposium for the Healthcare Community". This event attracts distinguished speakers that present topics related to Cultural Psychiatry.
