The Department of Medicine Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QI/PS) program is a comprehensive effort that addresses the Institution of Medicine's dimensions of quality, including:
- Safety
- Effectiveness
- Efficiency
- Patient-centered
- Equitable
- Timely care
Five Major Functions
This program includes five major functions:

Peer review process.
- Medical
patient care committee which sets the clinical priorities of the QI/PS program.

Multidisciplinary working groups which work to enhance the quality of patient care.

Division-based dashboards and performance improvement projects.

Education of house officers, medical students and faculty in modern QI/PS strategies.
