Addressing Quality of Patient Care

The Department of Medicine Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QI/PS) program is a comprehensive effort that addresses the Institution of Medicine’s dimensions of quality, including:

  • Safety
  • Effectiveness
  • Efficiency
  • Patient-centered
  • Equitable
  • Timely care

Five Major Functions

This program includes five major functions:

  1. Peer review process.

  2. Medical patient care committee which sets the clinical priorities of the QI/PS program.

  3. Multidisciplinary working groups which work to enhance the quality of patient care.

  4. Division-based dashboards and performance improvement projects.

  5. Education of house officers, medical students and faculty in modern QI/PS strategies.
