Oversee the Care of Hospitalized Patient
Because the BIDMC Hospitalists work on the inpatient medical and surgical floors 24 hours a day, we are always available to respond to emergencies, conduct patient evaluations, talk to family members, and coordinate patient care with specialists and surgeons when necessary.
Train Medical Residents
BIDMC is a tertiary care academic medical center and a major teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School. The BIDMC Hospitalists are a central part of the academic mission; we supervise and teach medical interns, residents, and medical students to manage complex patients and master the skills necessary to become outstanding physicians.
Fully Inform Outpatient Providers
The BIDMC Hospitalists understand that the transition from the hospital to home is a vulnerable time for patients, and that communicating with patients, families, and outpatient doctors is just as important as the care we provide in the hospital.
Our Hospitalists keep outpatient providers fully informed about their patient's condition, contacting the providers when there are any significant changes their patient's clinical condition, and providing a summary of the hospital course in a timely manner.
We make sure that the patients discharge medications are correct, the follow-up appointments are scheduled, and that all the services are in place for a safe transition to home.
