Ethics Advisory Committee (EAC)

About Us

Established in 2003 as a subcommittee of the Medical Executive Committee (MEC), the EAC includes representatives from diverse clinical and administrative departments throughout the medical center. The EAC itself does not have decision-making authority—decision-making in individual cases lies with the attending physician and patient or surrogate, and approval of policy issues rests with MEC.

In its monthly meetings, the EAC reviews the consultative and educational activities of the Ethics Support Service (ESS), addresses policy and systems issues identified through ESS activities and other sources, and oversees activities and involvement of the medical center-wide network of Ethics Liaisons. With the growth of the Ethics Liaisons program, the EAC will review annual plans for ethics education and support in each Liaison’s area, and help ensure that adequate assistance is available if needed.
