Risk Factors
Risk factors for developing tachycardia include:
- Heart disease, especially prior heart attack
- Coronary artery disease
- Cardiomyopathy (damaged heart muscle)
- Electrolyte abnormalities such as too much or too little calcium, sodium, magnesium or potassium in the blood
- Damaged heart valves
- High blood pressure
- Hyperthyroidism
- Sleep apnea
- Family history of arrhythmias or heart disease
- Older age
