Fees
A fee may be charged based on the reason the copies are being requested.
Under the law, effective October 1, 2011, fees for copies of medical records are:
- $19.84 based charge for the clerical and other administrative expenses related to complying with the request for making a copy of the record
- $0.67 per -page for the first 100 pages copied
- $0.35 per-page charge for each page in excess of 100 pages
There may be an additional fee charged for postage and the administrative cost of developing a summary of medical information if requested.
Fees are not charged for copies of records requested by a patient for the purpose of continuing care or eligibility review with Medicare, MassHealth or other public assistance programs.
In addition, there is no base fee charged for patient requests. However, requests from any other party that is not the patient or the patient's representative may be charged the base fee for administrative expenses.
