Toxicology Service
The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Emergency Department offers the only acute care medical toxicology consultation service within the Harvard affiliated hospitals system. Our scope of practice includes the evaluation and management of intentional and unintentional ingestions, acute occupational and environmental exposures, adverse drug reactions and envenomations. We have five physicians board-certified in medical toxicology who are on call 24/7 and available to see patient s in the ED, ICU or inpatient floor. We are also available for phone consultations with referring physicians and can help arrange transfer of patients who would benefit from a bedside toxicology evaluation. All of our toxicologists are on staff and work closely with the MA/RI Poison Control Center located at Children’s Hospital Boston. The on-call toxicologist can be reached through the BI Paging System via the toxicology pager 3TOXI (38684).
