About Dr. Epstein

Stephen Epstein completed his Masters in Public Policy as part of a joint degree program with Harvard Medical School. His research interests are in health policy and health services.

Dr. Epstein is a recognized expert on emergency department crowding, serving on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Boarding and Patient Flow Task Force, as well as several national-level committees addressing this critical access to emergency care issue. He is the lead author of the National Report Care on the State of Emergency Medicine (2009 Edition).

He is active nationally within the speciality of emergency medicine, serving as chair of several national task forces and on numerous committees for both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. He is one of five emergency medicine delegates to the American Medical Association House of Delegates, where he also serves on the Governing Council of the Specialty and Service Society. He is a past president of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians and serves his local community as a member of its Board of Health.
