Bowdoin Geneva Farmers' Market

By: Philly Laptiste

July 2008 marked the kick-off of the Bowdoin/Geneva Farmers’ Market. Last season, we had hundreds of customers and offered a variety of produce. There were never enough cinnamon twists! Bowdoin Street Health Center, The Food Project, local business owners, residents and agencies teamed up to form the “Food in the Hood” committee to explore opportunities to provide access to healthy foods for the community.

A wonderful project that came out of this partnership is the Bowdoin/Geneva Farmers’ Market. Residents, committee members and health center staff patronize the market each week. The health center clinical teams encourage our patients to eat healthier and with the market located just outside our doors, it doesn’t get any easier. Excitement is building about opening day!

The market will open on Thursday, July 9th from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Bowdoin Street Health Center. Opening day will consist of music, lots of fun activities for families and of course, a variety of fresh, affordable produce to choose from. The market accepts both WIC and EBT. EBT card holders can participate in the Boston Bounty Bucks program and double their dollars. The program allows the market to match up to $10 worth of produce!

The Farmers’ Market will continue every Thursday afternoon until October. If you would like more information about the market, please contact Philly at (617) 754-0041.
