The CardioVascular Institute is once again sponsoring The Walking Club at BIDMC because walking is so good for your heart. Families, individuals, groups, schools and companies are starting walking programs to get fit, using our free resources developed by BIDMC clinicians.

Walking Is Good for Your Heart
It's a fact: you can improve your heart health simply by walking. Study after study has confirmed that moderate physical activity -- such as walking -- is associated with a host of positive health results, including preventing heart disease. Walking can also benefit those with a history of heart problems.

Women Can Improve Heart Health
While They "Walk and Talk"
"There have been studies on women who were sedentary and became active later in life," Dr. Feinberg says. "This was shown to lower the incidence of cardiac events later in life, so there is a benefit....it's never too late to start!"

Eliot School Joins Walking Club
Teachers and seventh graders from Boston's Eliot K-8 School are piloting a new, free kit designed to get students up and moving. The 20-page walking kit, created by clinicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, aims to motivate youngsters to start a walking program with a member of their own family and to track their progress over time.
