The Hematologic Malignancies/Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a comprehensive service that offers the best in innovative care for patients diagnosed with hematologic cancers, including specialized care for those with leukemia, myelodysplasia, lymphoma, bone marrow failure syndromes, Hodgkin’s disease, multiple myeloma, and patients undergoing bone marrow transplants.Combining the best in leading-edge treatments and research with highly compassionate, personalized services, the program is renowned for providing exceptional care for its patients.

The program offers complete services, including:

  • Allogeneic stem cell and bone marrow transplants from related and matched unrelated donors (MUD program)

Under great leadership, the program has experienced significant growth, including the establishment of a MUD program and its acceptance as a transplant site for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Its extensive services and achievements earned the program accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). Clinical Excellence

Beth Israel Deaconess is a founding member of the world-renowned Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, giving patients access to all clinical trials and “bench-to-bedside” breakthroughs offered by any of the seven Harvard-affiliated member institutions in Boston. The medical center is also a member of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, one of the country’s largest clinical cancer research organizations.

Beth Israel Deaconess is a transplant site of NMDP. This gives patients who need a stem cell transplant, but who do not have a related donor match, access to NMDP’s international registry of more than five million possible donors. A further mark of clinical excellence, the program is accredited by FACT.

Exceptional Patient-Centered Care

All patient appointments, treatment ,and services are provided at Beth Israel Deaconess in facilities solely dedicated to caring for hematologic malignancy and bone marrow transplant patients, including a newly renovated and expanded outpatient treatment area and a new, state-of-the-art, 24-bed inpatient unit.

Patient care is provided by a team of highly skilled oncologists and specially trained nurses, clinical researchers, radiation therapists, stem cell laboratory specialists, and others who work together to provide a seamless continuum of expert care on-site. Attending physicians are dedicated to providing highly personalized care and spend an exceptional amount of one-on-one time with patients throughout the course of treatment.

Beth Israel Deaconess nurses have extensive experience and have undergone intensive training in caring for transplant patients, including certification in the administration of high-dose chemotherapy.

The program offers a broad network of support services and resources, including dedicated social workers, financial counselors, and outpatient housing for patients and their families following transplant.
