Multidisciplinary Services

The Renal Tumor Program brings together physicians who specialize in Urology, Medical Oncology, Radiology, Pathology and Radiation Oncology. As the only clinic in Boston to focus exclusively on renal tumors, we work collaboratively to meet the complex needs of patients from initial consultations to surgical intervention and targeted radiotherapy. Many patients come to BIDMC specifically to participate in clinical trials for patients with renal tumors.

At the Renal Tumor Clinic, board-certified specialists provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment at one convenient location in Boston’s Longwood Medical area. Located in the Shapiro building, the clinic schedules patient appointments every Tuesday from 1-5 p.m. On Thursday afternoons, we convene multidisciplinary conferences to discuss each patient’s case.

The Renal Tumor Program Team

The team’s commitment extends to research, development, and participation in clinical trials. Research focuses of the group include:

• High-Dose Interleukin-2 in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma
• Evaluating quality of life after minimally invasive surgery
• Tumor vaccine trials
• Identification of molecular pathways for treating kidney cancer

Additionally, our patients benefit from extraordinary collaboration among urologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, and other physicians in an academic setting that continually enhances program quality.
