About the BreastCare Center

Reason #29 better cancer outcomes start with better diagnoses

Comprehensive Evaluation and Treatment of Breast Concerns

The BreastCare Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) offers a complete range of diagnostic evaluations, including mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI and minimally invasive biopsy techniques as well as consultation, assessment and management of breast concerns, including:

  • Breast lumps and thickenings
  • Abnormal mammograms
  • Breast pain
  • Nipple discharge
  • Breast cancer
  • Assessment of breast cancer genetics

Individuals with a family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer can be seen in our genetic risk evaluation program. A detailed family history and visit with our team of cancer risk specialists including a genetic counselor can help individuals learn about the risks and benefits of genetic testing. Individuals can also learn about risk reduction management options, and clinical studies currently underway at BIDMC.

The Preventive Services Task Force of the Department of Health and Human Services recommended against regular mammograms for most women in their 40's. The guidelines also advise that women aged 50 to 74 years receive mammograms every other year. How comfortable are you with these new guidelines?
